Hume partners are a bespoke investment house borne out of the Peter Scanlon Family Office. We are independent and have grown into a significant Multi-Family Investment House since our launch in 2015 with over $1 billion in funds under manangement.

We are, first and foremost, investors, singularly focused on ifnding great long term invetments for our clients across both public and private markets. We pride ourselves on being investors, not fund managers, and always seeking to provide the right capital solutions to our investee companies and partners.

INVESTMENT CRITERIA

At Hume Partners we are interested in hearing from Prinicipals or Advisers about investment opportunities in buinesses which meet the following criteria:

Investment of between $20 million and $200 million in:

  • Australian domiciled business and listed internation investments
  • Profitable trading history and or solid asset backing
  • High quality reputable management/project developers
  • Providing capital to support growth to like-minded long-term investors
  • Debt, mezzanine, preferred equity and/or equity
  • We have deep knowledge clusters and experience in:
    • Property (Office Protfolios, Broad Acre Sub-division, Childcare)
    • Infrastructure (Nationwide Logistics, Waste Management, Cunsumer Leisure)
    • Water Rights and Horticulture
    • Financial Services (Structured Finance & Asset Based Lending)

HAMILTON HUME

For the sake of those who bear my name, I should Wish it to be held in remembarnce as that of one who, will small opportunities but limited resources, did what he could for his native land

The name ‘Hume Partners’ was chosen to recognize the significant contribution made to Australia by its greatest explorer Hamilton Hume.

Australia’s two major financial capitals, Sydney and Melbourne, are inceed connected by the Hume Highway and it is these two cities where our foundation clients were based.

Simply put, Hamilton Hume was Australia’s greatest explorer. He discovered Australia’s greatest rivers (Murray and Darling) and its richetst farmlands and, in the harshest of conditions, self-funded the first overland expedition from Sydney to Melbourne.

However, Hume was more than just an explorer. He ws, firstly, an Australia born in Australia in 1797 to free settling British parents. In a country occupied by British forces in a land inhabited by indigenous people for thousands of years, he led by example establishing a profound understanding of the Aboriginal people and the Australian bush. Hme befriended the Aborigines where others turned to violence and in each his major expeditions they helped him achieve success with their knowledge of the land and rivers.

As robert Macklink wrote in his book Hamilton Hume:

He had been the pathfinder to much of the most valuable country in Australia… But perhaps the greatest service he rendered Australia was his understanding of the mood and qaulity of his homeland as only a native-born could. To this he added a visionary appreciation of its potential and unique respect for the Aobriginal people.

OUR BIOS

ROSS BURNEY

Chief Executive Offiicer & Cheif Investment Officer

Prior to the formation of Hume Partners in 2015, Ross was the CEO of the Peter Scanlon Family Office for five years and was responsible for a diverse range of investments including private equity, listed securities, credit and property.

Ross has represented the Scanlon family interests on the boards of public companies such as Qube Holdings Limited, Ruralco Holdings Limtied and Oncard International Limited and private vehicles such as Bennelong Real Estate, Taverners Group and Kaplan Equity Limited and has served as a trustee of the Scanlon Foundation.

Prior to this Ross worked variously for Guiness Peat Group, Brierley Investments and BDO Chartered Accountants, in Sydney and London. He has over 25 years’ experience as a CEO, investment manager and accountant.

KATE WILKIE

Chief Financial Officer

Kate has over 20 years’ expef2f3f4rience providing a full range of accounting audit, advisory and corporate finance services to both large private businesses and public compaines in the funds management, transport and retail industries.

Kate has worked with many listed and unlisted boards to enhance corporate governance paracties and implement rigourous reporting and internal control frameworks. She has been a non-executive director National Patient Transport. Prior to becoming Chief Financial Officer of Hume Partners, Kate was the Financial Controller of the Taverners Group and is currently non-executive director of Altert Park Driving Range and a Company Secretary (former treasurer) of the Not-For-Profit organisation, Community Hubs.

Kate is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and holds a degree in Commerece from the University of Melbourne.

SCOTT DAVIES

Managing Director, Hume Property

Scott joined Bennelong Group in 2008, responsible for Executing BPFM strategy, Fund Management, and leading aset repositioning, leasing and sales transactions and property development. Scott has 39 years’ experience in the property industry spanning funds management, property development, marketing & sales, leasing, asset management, valuations consultancy and project financing.

Scott was previously Victorian State Manager for ASX listed Valad Property Group, and prior to that he was National Head of Coles Myer Limited’s Property Group. From 1999 to 2002 Scott was a Director Multiplex Development, following a long and successful career in commercial real estate.

JACQUI WITHERS

Commercial Manager – Property

Jacqui has over 13 years of accounting and property investement experience focused on the residential land subdivision space. Jacqui actively works with joint venture partners, construction groups, consultants and marketing teams, bringing a strong understanding of the projects to help forecast whole of life cashflows and project profits.

Jacqui is director of Brencorp Properties and its subsidiary companies. She is dedicated to achieving the best results for current projects as well as looking for new opportuities.

Jacqui is a member of CPA Australia and holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) degree from Monash University.

JOE POWELL

Managing Director

Currently a consultant with Hume Partners, Joe has extensive experience managing and operating multinational buinesses in the technology sector.

Prior to Hume Partners Joe was the Chief Executive Officer of publicly listed, global sports technology leader – Catapult Sports for 2.5 years. Prior to Catapult, Joe spent 10 years with SEEK ltd. In that time, he was Managing Director of SEEK Education where he oversaw various education businessses in Australia and Internationally. Joe also spent six years as Managing Director of SEEK Employment, responsible for the day-to-day management of SEEK’s core Online Employment business in Australia and New Zealand.

Prior to Seek, Joe Spent 11 years at Optus in various manangement roles, after starting his career as an accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Joe also has significant board experience with Online Education Services and IDP Education and is a current director of the Richmond Football Club and the Migration Council Australia.
